Implementing drives for the player:

  • Player motivation - connection to the game: You now have a name and a goal, as well as a reason to accomplish this goal.
  • A sense of urgency is used to send the player to the finish line.
  • Exploration: adding mystery to the level

The way I have implemented these drives:

  •  Text prompts have been added at the beginning and around the level to give the player an idea of what story they are playing.
  • A timer has been added once the initial goal is completed: this forces the player to change their approach towards the level.
  • Closed doors and keys to these doors have been added, as well as some text behind doors to encourage exploration.
